Depending on the bandwidth available from your machine, you will want to limit Windows UI features to improve performance. The connection speed drop down can be used to set all options together, or they can be individually customized. The features are: desktop backgrounds, showing full window contents when dragging, menu and window animation, and windows themes.

Use multiple monitors when necessaryBy default, a full screen session is restricted to the monitor containing the server window. You can enable multiple monitor spanning in the full screen options. If the remote desktop is larger than window's monitor, it will span as many monitors as needed to fit the remote session. Note that only rectangular areas are used, so if you have two monitors with differing vertical resolutions, the shorter of the two is used. Also, there is a hard limit of 4096x2048 for the remote desktop control.

The maximum size of the remote desktop is determined by the version of the remote desktop activeX control. Version 5 (pre-Vista) had a maximum of 1600 x 1200; Version 6 (Vista) has a maximum of 4096 x 2048. This limit is enforced at connection time, not during data entry. This is in case the same RDCMan file is shared by multiple computers.

Select the file you wish to copy, but do not open it. If you'd like to copy multiple files, hold down the CTRL button as you select additional files. You can also select folders, and this will select all the files that are stored within them.

Desktops allows you to organize your applications on up to four virtualdesktops. Read email on one, browse the web on the second, and do workin your productivity software on the third, without the clutter of thewindows you're not using. After you configure hotkeys for switchingdesktops, you can create and switch desktops either by clicking on thetray icon to open a desktop preview and switching window, or by usingthe hotkeys.

Unlike other virtual desktop utilities that implement their desktops byshowing the windows that are active on a desktop and hiding the rest,Sysinternals Desktops uses a Windows desktop object for each desktop.Application windows are bound to a desktop object when they are created,so Windows maintains the connection between windows and desktops andknows which ones to show when you switch a desktop. That makingSysinternals Desktops very lightweight and free from bugs that the otherapproach is prone to where their view of active windows becomesinconsistent with the visible windows.

Desktops reliance on Windows desktop objects means that it cannotprovide some of the functionality of other virtual desktop utilities, however. For example, Windows doesn't provide a way to move a windowfrom one desktop object to another, and because a separate Explorerprocess must run on each desktop to provide a taskbar and start menu, most tray applications are only visible on the first desktop. Further, there is no way to delete a desktop object, so Desktops does not providea way to close a desktop, because that would result in orphaned windowsand processes. The recommended way to exit Desktops is therefore tologoff.

If you have the Sync desktop app installed on multiple computers, you can control whichfolders within your Sync folder get synced to each computer. This is accomplished via selective sync as follows:

When a folder is deselected via selective sync it will show a grey circle with a minus sign overlay icon, signifying that it is no longer syncing and safe to delete from your computer (to free up space). If you re-check a folder in the future, Sync will re-download it from the cloud.
